Garmin announces Vivosmart 5 fitness tracker

Garmin has announced the Vivosmart 5 fitness tracker in India. The smart fitness tracker comes with advanced sleep-tracking features, including Garmin sleep score, quick health stats for pulse oximetry, heart rate monitoring, “body battery” energy monitoring, all-day stress tracking, and more.

Compared to the previous generation, Vivosmart 5 offers 66% more screen area with larger text, an intuitive touch screen and a button interface. The tracker also displays users’ current fitness age, based on VO2 max, resting heart rate, and BMI. (Body Mass Index) This feature is intended to encourage users to decrease the number while increasing activity.

The device tests the user’s heart rate multiple times per second throughout the day and provides alerts for abnormal high and low heart rate, which can be configured by users. The device will rate the quality and quantity of sleep based on time spent in sleep stages, amount of movement, stress levels and more to customize a user’s sleep score. In addition, it monitors “body battery” energy levels, hydration levels, and a woman’s health.

Various sports applications can be easily accessed from the device itself. There are apps for swimming, cycling, weightlifting, and other intense activities. The device can be connected to the user’s smartphone GPS to accurately track the distance, pace and speed of outdoor walking, running and cycling.

It also comes with a security and tracking feature where the user can hold a button for a few seconds to trigger the help alert which sends a text message with the user’s location to the emergency contacts pre-selected by them.

Compatible with both Android and iOS smartphones, the device generates a personalized morning report each day, which includes information such as sleep score and step goals. It also displays a list of upcoming appointments and weather information.

The Garmin Vivosmart 5 is available in two colors: mint and black. The mint variant is only available in small and medium sizes while the black variant is also available in a large size.
