Four, including two children, drown in two separate accidents

In two separate accidents in Gujarat, two minors and two young men drowned in Surat and Valsad districts respectively.

According to reports, Mahinur Malik, 8, and her cousin Rehan Pathan, 10, both residents of Limodara village in Mangrul Taluka in Surat district, lost their lives on Sunday after they drowned in a pond. The two children reportedly went to relieve themselves near a pond. Later family members retrieved the body of Rehan and Mahnour from the pond.

Cosamba police have registered a case of accidental death and opened an investigation. They sent the bodies of the two children to the primary health care center in Mangrol.

Elias Pathan, father of Rehan Pathan, told Indianexpress.com, “Mahinor is my niece, who lives in Moti Naroli village in Mangrol Taluka. Mahinor and her older brother Farhan came to stay at my house for a few days. On Sunday evening, Mahienour, Farhan and Rehan went to respond to The call of nature in our backyard near the pond. Mahienour and Rehan crept into the pond. Farhan rushed back and told us about the accident, but by then the two children had drowned.”

In another accident, Ajit Chauhan, 19, and Babu Valmiki, 21, both residents of Dongra village in Valsad Taluka, drowned while swimming in the Damanganga River near their village on Sunday evening. The sources said that Hatish, who was with him, rushed back to the village to seek help.

Dongra police and Valsad fire department officials arrived at the scene after receiving information about the accident. Life Saver Group volunteers from the nearby village of Chanderpur also arrived at the scene. Ajit’s body was recovered late Sunday evening. But until the latest reports emerged, the whereabouts of Babu’s body had not been determined.

Dongra police registered an accidental death and handed over Ajit’s body to his family on Monday afternoon.
