Former IND Batter Lauds Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Knock Against CSK

Rajasthan Royals opener Yasavi Jaiswal continued his brilliance in the crucial match against Chennai Super Kings on Friday night. During the 151 chase, the youngster earned his second fiftieth of the season, scoring 59 of just 44 balls.

Yashasvi got RR off to a fast start with consecutive limits off Mukesh Choudhary in the first innings. He went on to smash two more straight edges the next, giving the royal roles much-needed stability. The 20-year-old added 51 throws for the second wicket with captain Sanju Samson (15). Growing up half a century of his age at 39 balls, well-prepared Jaiswal walked out to Prashant Solanki while trying to clear the fence.

Former India batsman Virender Sehwag paid tribute to the youngster and said Jaiswal’s powerplay style was much better than that of Sanju Samson and Jos Buttler.

“Butler and Shamson scored several goals in the tournament. And when they didn’t, someone else had to step in. Jaiswal and Ashwin did it. They stepped in and took their team home. Especially the way Yashwag played in powerplay, it was a win-win situation,” Sehwag told Cricbuzz. He looked a lot better than Butler and Shamson.”

“He (Jaiswal) really slowed down after the fall of Samson and Butler, but that was the need of the hour. He applied his brain. Because there was no MS Dhoni for RR who was going to take the game deeper and finish it at the end. So, Jaiswal struggled brilliantly.”

Sahwag added that he would have enjoyed more if Jaiswal had fought to the end. He remembers the words of batting legend Sachin Tendulkar about what a hitter should do when in good shape.

“It would have been fun if he had finished the match with Ashwin. A mixture of youth and experience could have been watched. And that’s what a young man needs to learn. Because Sachin once told me that when it’s your day, just score. Because when you don’t run, you starve from For him.

“So my advice to Jaiswal is to keep scoring when you are able to do so. Because you are going to go out somewhere in the next match but you are not going to run after that.”
