Female sub-inspector allegedly mowed down by van in Ranchi; driver held

In the preliminary investigation, the driver and his vehicle were seized and it was confirmed that the act was committed intentionally

A woman sub-inspector who was on patrol duty was hit by a pickup van on Wednesday night in the Tupudana police station of the state capital, Ranchi, officials said.

The incident took place around 3 am when Officer Sandhya Topno attempted to stop the vehicle for inspection.

Confirming the development, Ranchi Superintendent of Police (City), Anshuman Kumar, said, “Sandhya Topno was patrolling at night. Preliminary investigation has confirmed that the act was committed deliberately. We have arrested the driver and the vehicle has been seized.

When asked if the arrested person or vehicle was involved in any illegal act like smuggling, the SP said that the investigation is on and will share the details once the investigation is over.
