The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday questioned Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez in New Delhi in an investigation into the alleged money laundering case against Sukesh Chandrasekhar.

An official familiar with the matter said that further clarification is needed by Fernandez to track down Chandrasekhar’s criminal proceeds.

In April, the firm attached Fernandes’ funds to the company’s fixed deposits 7.12 crores and 15 lakh cash as “criminal income”. She was questioned in August last year.

Chandrashekhar, who is in Tihar Jail in New Delhi, is accused of giving expensive gifts to Fernandez, who said he was finally back.

The ED statement in April cited her investigation and revealed that Chandrasekhar had given her valuable gifts. 5.71 crores from the alleged proceeds of criminal offenses arising from criminal activities including extortion. “In addition to these gifts, he also paid $ 1,72,913 and AUD 26,740 to close family members of Jacqueline Fernandez through co-accused Avatar Singh Kochhar, an established and well-known international hawala operator.

Chandrasekhar delivered 15 lakh in advance for scriptwriter to write script for his web series project on behalf of Fernandez.

Fernandez admitted he had received gifts and had holidays on private jets but said he had not been involved in any illegal transactions.

Chandrashekhar was arrested in April 2017 for allegedly receiving money from All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) (AMMA) leader TTV Dinakaran for bribing officials of the Election Commission of India in connection with the AIADMK’s election symbol sharing issue.

He defied calls from Tihar to defraud people by impersonating government officials.
