Police said a wanted man and his accomplice were arrested in Shahdara, Delhi on Monday by the Economic Crimes Wing and handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation. The two men have been identified as the main suspect, Pradeep Baliwal, 70, and his partner, Vinayak Bhatt.
Police added that Baliwal is wanted in four cases registered with EOW, CBI, Karol Bagh and Udhyog Vihar, respectively. They added that Bhatt was wanted in another case by the CBI.
A senior police officer said, “Baliwal and his partner used to deceive people and banks under the pretext of getting money to invest in granite mining business. He did this by taking loans with false papers against properties that had already been mortgaged.”
The official added that he and his partner were arrested in Shahdara on the basis of detailed data and manual observation.
Officials added that the accused evaded arrest by using calling apps on a Zimbabwean mobile phone number. He also did not stay in one place for more than 24 hours, and avoided air travel. Use a private car to travel between Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab and Delhi.
