Disaster Averted as Rishabh Pant Collides With Former IPL Teammate as He’s Nearly Run Out For a Duck

Rishabh Pant could have a memorable first outing as a hit as he made his debut in India on Thursday night. Bant has been named captain of the India T20I team after injured KL Rahul was ruled out a day before the start of the five-match series against South Africa in Delhi.

The wicket holder went out to strike on the 13th day after Ishaan Kishan was sent off. Shreyas Iyer was up front when Kagisu Rabada came back in attack in the 14th minute with a pant at the non-attacker end and not yet faced with his first delivery.

Iyer played the first delivery of Rabada over towards the middle of the short track and after initially calling for a single, quickly backtracked. Although Pant was off the blocks in a jiffy and halfway across the field, he ended up colliding with the South African bowler and inadvertently pushing right.

Pant quickly regained his balance but by then Tristan Stubbs had picked up the ball and unleashed the shot that was off target. Although Pant bumped into Stubbs as well and fell back on his way to the crease.

Pant was exhausted and stunned sitting on his knee, gasping for breath when Rabada shook hands with him, realizing what his former IPL captain had gone through. To his credit, despite double collisions that could have ended his innings at 0, Bant managed to crack a smile.

In response, impressive half-horns from Rassie van der Dussen (75*) and David Miller (64*) helped the tourists chase the goal in 19.1 times for an impressive win by seven wickets.

The second match will be held on Sunday at Parapati Stadium in Cuttack.
