Former fast bowler Irfan Pathan said Chennai Super Kings had a season to forget but it was not all doom and gloom for the four-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions. CSK did not enter the playoff for only the second time in the season where MS Dhoni handed Ravindra Jadeja the captaincy in the 15-year history of the IPL, then returned as captain in the second half of the season. A devastating race of defeats. (More IPL Stories)
Since their return, CSK has had a more exciting run of games, in which despite the defeats, the players have put on shows that the franchise can build on in the future. Pathan listed five positives for CSK this season.
“Despite the bad season for CSK, here are 5 positives for them. 1) Mukesh Chaudhary 2) Davan Conway 3) Mathisha Pathirana 4) Mahesh Teeksha 5) Simmerjeet Singh, ”Pathan said in his tweet.
Fast bowlers Mukesh Chaudhary, Simarjit Singh and Matheesha Pathirana have been a part of the team since Dhoni took over. Especially the Sri Lankan Pathirana has turned his head with his slinging action which is similar to the fast paced Lasith Malinga. Meanwhile, he has taken 12 wickets in nine matches while maintaining a quick economy of 7.45.
New Zealand wicketkeeper-batter Devon Conway, who made his Test debut in 2021, has shown that the appetite for runs does not change with the nature of the sport. He did not play when Jadeja was the captain but after joining the team, Conway opened the innings with Ruturaj Gayakwad and scored 252 runs at 145.66 strikeouts in seven matches.
