Delhi rain: Amid waterlogging and traffic snarls, police issue advisories

Delhi Traffic Police Thursday issued several warnings on social media after rains fell on the city and the National Capital Region (NCR) causing traffic jams and waterlogging in many areas. Police based IMD’s forecast of a light to moderate thunderstorm and gusty winds across Delhi and advised passengers to plan their trip accordingly.

Officials also issued waterlogging warnings at the Pol Prahladpur Railway Tunnel, noting that “traffic has been restricted at the Pol Prahladpur Railway Tunnel. Both tracks are closed due to waterlogging.”

They advised passengers from Shooting Range direction to turn left from Lal Kuan signal, and those from Badarpur to take Mathura Road.

Meanwhile, waterlogging has hampered traffic near Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Setu district. Police noted that waterlogging is affecting traffic heading from the Lower Lodi Tunnel and AIIMS towards Sarai Kali Khan and DND, and advised drivers to avoid the extension.

Traffic on the IIT bridge towards Monerca was affected when a heavy carriage broke down. As traffic in South Delhi was affected, officials also advised drivers to avoid the Aurobindo Marg Road from IIT to Adhchini in both directions, MB Road from Khanpur T point to Tughlaq Fort in both directions, and the Outer Ring Road from Chirag Delhi to Savitri Flavor.

In Gurgaon, traffic jams have been reported at Pasay Chowk, near Sector 4/5 Chowk, Evko Chowk and on National Highway 48 near Khandsa towards Jaipur due to waterlogging.

Ahead of the monsoon season, the traffic police said 1,100 personnel, road safety officers and two rapid response teams will be deployed to facilitate traffic during the rainy season. “Towing cranes will be available 24/7 in various places of the city to deal with all kinds of problems caused by water cuts,” Gurgaon Traffic Police said in a statement.
