Casper Ruud will defend his title at the Geneva Open against unseeded Joao Sousa after winning straight sets in Friday’s semi-finals.

The 8th seed Rudd beat Riley Opelka 7-6 (2) 7-5 to raise his career record to 4-0 against the American big-serving, the 18th seed.
Rudd seized his only game-breaking opportunity at 5-5 in the second set and then sealed the win with consecutive aces. Rudd earned four aces for Opelka’s 12 aces.
Rudd has reached his level as the French Open that begins on Sunday looms, and also reached the semi-finals of the Masters event in Rome last week.
Sousa advanced to his first clay court final since 2018, beating Richard Gasquet 6-2, 6-2. Sousa was a bridesmaid in Geneva seven years ago.
