Four-time IPL winner Chennai Super Kings look to end their campaign on a positive note against Rajasthan Royals at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium on Friday. While the Royals are looking for a top-two finish, the Super Kings could emerge as ‘party poopers’ in their final match. Full coverage of IPL 2022
The team led by MS Dhoni has scored just four wins this season and is ninth on the league scoring list. The game does not make any difference to Chennai’s position on the table but draws a large audience despite Dhoni’s end of his illustrious career. It remains to be seen whether the Chennai Talisman will lead or dive under the guidance. The 40-year-old Dhoni has once again handed over the administration of CSK after he abandoned the leadership to focus on Ravindra Jadeja’s game.
Speaking of Chennai’s batting attack, Ruthuraj Gayakwad’s skill-set will be tested against the likes of Prasad Krishna and Trent Boult. In addition, Purple Cap holder Yuzvendra Chahal will also look to strengthen his position at the top of the list of wicket-takers. In their final match of the season, Chennai expects their veterans to bear some responsibility. While Devon Conway has enjoyed a spectacular patch, MS Dhoni (206), Ambati Rayudu (271) and Robin Uthappa (230) are not the greatest of the IPL season.
On the bowling front, Mukesh Chaudhary, Simarjeet Singh and ‘Baby Malinga’ Mathisha Pathirana hope to entertain Jose Butler. Mahesh Theeksha, who has taken 12 wickets so far this season, can hit shots from his unconventional action. If Chennai made four changes in the previous match and the team management changed the composition again, we could see a new face in the eleven. At the recent Under-19 World Cup, Rajawardhan Hungergaker made waves with his seam-bowling prowess and hard-hitting ability. After a three-team bidding war, Chennai was paid Rs 1.5 crore at auction in February.
Before their match against Rajasthan Royals at Brabourne Stadium, let’s take a look at the potential playing XI for Chennai Super Kings …

Middle order: Moin Ali, Shivam Dubey, N Jagadeesan
Power-hitter: MS Dhoni
Spin Options: Michelle Santner, Prashant Solanki / Mahesh Theeksha
Speed: Simmerjeet Singh, Matheesa Pathirana / Rajawardhan Hungergaker, Mukesh Chaudhary
CSK Possible XI vs RR: Ruturaj Gayakwad, Devon Conway, Moin Ali, Shivam Dubey, N Jagadeesan, MS Dhoni (C&WK), Mitchell Santner, Prashant Solanki / Mahesh Theeksha, Simmerjeet Singh, Matheesha Pathirana / Rajawardhan Hungergaker, Mukesh
Changes to Playing XI: Leggie Prashant Solanki made his debut against Gujarat and returned 0/18 of his four. If Mahesh returns to the quick eleven, he may be left out.
