Cristiano Ronaldo most trolled footballer, Manchester United dominates the list

Twitter has shown that Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Maguire are the players most abused. Both Manchester United players have received tons of offensive tweets over their performances. Based on data collected by Ofcom, it appears that 2.3 million messages were sent to Premier League players during the first five months of the 2021-22 season.

Ronaldo received 12,520 offensive messages according to data provided by Ofcom. On the other hand, Maguire has 8,954 tweets against him. 60,000 tweets were dissected from August 2021 through January 2022.

The data found that 60,000 posts were deemed abusive, with 68% of first-tier players receiving at least one message in that period. Nearly three-quarters of footballers in the Premier League have received abusive messages and some have received daily abuse.

This summer has seen Ronaldo search for a new club to play football in the Champions League. His agent Jorge Mendes spent most of this time trying to sell his client to Champions League teams from across Europe, while at the same time pleading with United to let him leave. But at the age of 37, Ronaldo’s powers have diminished somewhat and teams are beginning to realize that signing him will be a liability rather than a valuable opportunity.

Despite scoring more than 20 goals last season, Ronaldo’s arrival means United, who finished second in the league the previous season after scoring 122 goals in all competitions, dropped his total goals by 52 goals. Enough not to win one title, collapse the Champions League (a major reason for Ronaldo’s comeback) and ultimately not make the Champions League of the season.
