Congress MLA Kuldeep Bishnoi resigned from the Haryana Legislative Assembly on Wednesday. Bishnoi submitted his resignation to Assembly Speaker Gian Chand Gupta. He is expected to join the ruling BJP on Thursday.
After Kuldeep resigned as MLA from Haryana’s Adampur constituency, he contested and won the seat vacated by Bhupinder Singh Hooda. Notably, his resignation will necessitate a by-election from the Adampur constituency in Hisar district.
“BS Hooda challenged me to resign and I accepted his challenge. Now, I challenge him to contest and win from Adampur constituency,” Bishnoi said after resigning as MLA, news agency ANI reported.
The Congress expelled the 53-year-old leader from all party seats soon after he was cross-voted in the Rajya Sabha elections in June. A four-time MLA and two-time MP, Bishnoi was upset after the party ignored him for the post of Haryana unit chief during the revival earlier this year.
Earlier in a tweet in Hindi, the former Congress MLA had said: “Before embarking on a new political journey… had a long discussion with my own people and always received a lot of love and support for which I am forever grateful. People of Adampur…”
Responding to a question about Kuldeep Bishnoi joining the BJP, Bhupinder Singh Hooda said he is free to take a decision on his political future. “He should have resigned from the Congress the day he was cross-voted… We are ready for the by-elections,” Hooda said.
