After a four-hour long manhunt on Tuesday, police arrested one of the suspects involved in the killing of a Deputy Superintendent of Police who was investigating a case of illegal stone mining from Chilla village in Panchgaon, about 45 kilometers from Gurugram.
Police have identified the arrested suspect as Ikkar Khan of Panchgaon, when the truck’s cleaner ran over DSP Surendra Singh in Nuh district on Tuesday morning when he was directed to stop. They said Khan was arrested after a gunshot wound to his leg during a shootout with the police. A search is on to nab the driver of the truck, who has been identified only as Mittar, police said.
Superintendent of Police Varun Singla said six teams have been formed to arrest the driver and the cleaner of the truck that ran over DSP Singh. Crime squads have been sent to various areas to conduct searches to arrest the suspects. While one team worked on identifying the vehicle that ran over the DSP as it had no number plate, another team used the data of drivers and cleaners available with the police to zero in on the suspects and put down their phone numbers technically. The truck used in the crime, which is yet to be seized, has an incomplete number plate on the front and no rear plate, police said.
Meanwhile, Haryana DGP PK Agrawal on Tuesday visited DSP Singh’s family at the Community Health Center in Nuh, where his body was kept after postmortem.

DSP Singh’s reader Sanjay Kumar, assistant sub-inspector Sanjay Kumar, alleged that while he was on his way to stop illegal mining near Panchgaon village on Tuesday, he noticed a dumper full of mining stones heading towards the hilly area. “As instructed by the DSP, the driver followed the dumper, there was no number plate on the back. There were ¾ youths inside the dumper cabin. After going up the hills, the driver stopped the vehicle and started unloading. We reached the spot along with the DSP and asked them to get down. The suspects threatened us with life and escaped us with weapons in hand. , otherwise he will be shot, he told the police in the complaint.
The driver and another person were addressing us with names and they said if the police arrest us they will arrest us for illegal mining, let us teach them a lesson to stop us, the driver suddenly speeded up the dumper and ran over the DSP sir.
