China relaxes some covid test rules for U.S., other travellers | Travel

From Friday, travelers from the United States no longer need RT-PCR testing for seven days before flying, according to instructions from the embassy and embassies in the United States. The requirements for antibody tests have also been abolished.

China has eliminated some Kovid-19 testing requirements for people flying from countries such as the United States, and has reduced the departure pre-quarantine for some incoming passengers, as it will improve measures to tackle the Omicron transformation.

Those passengers are required to undergo two more RT-PCR tests within 48 or 24 hours of their flights – depending on which airport they are flying to – and another pre-flight antigen test.

But travelers who have recovered from a previous infection will still have to go through six weeks of separation before further procedures can be carried out, the instructions said.

Travel in and out of China has fallen as the country follows a “dynamic code zero” policy, which includes restrictions on issuing and renewing passports, compulsory quarantine for most passengers after arrival and flight cancellations.

But Omicron’s shorter incubation period has allowed international travelers to ease restrictions somewhat. Beijing has reduced the quarantine period in centralized facilities from 14 days to 10 days after arrival of passengers.

Eliminating the RT-PCR test and antibody tests seven days before the flights will take effect from Sunday for travelers traveling to Canada from China, the embassy in Canada said on Thursday.

The Embassies of the United Arab Emirates, Serbia and Bangladesh on Wednesday said they had removed some test requirements and reduced the pre-departure quarantine for employees in Chinese companies flying to China from 21 days to 10 days.
