Chandigarh DEO among 2 get show-cause notice for holding up school upkeep funds

UT directors have issued a showcase notice to the School Education (DSE) District Education Officer (DEO) and the Deputy Controller of Finance and Accounts (DCFA) on allegations of holding funds meant for the management of schools.

The instructions were issued after a meeting with UT Education Secretary Poorva Garg on June 20.

Two officers were asked to report the details of pending engineering work files at their offices. The development comes after the UT Administrator and Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit inspected the government high school in Hallomajra on May 21.

However, DSE Harsuhinder Pal Singh Brar made it clear that the department was holding back the timely release of funds for the management of various government schools.

The DSE said that they are inspecting many government schools on a summer vacation with other senior officials, and that they are also working on monsoon preparations to combat potential flooding in low-lying schools.

Meanwhile, DEO Prabhjot Kaur said it is a routine procedure and has begun formalization by the department.

Kaur said he had submitted an answer. Quickly clearing files for work related to my office and DCFA UT Engineering department. Since the release is not controlled by us, the department is reviewing where these funds are being held.

He said the department is working hard to upgrade facilities in government schools before classes resume. According to sources, a meeting on the tin roof of the Hallomajra school was called this week and UT officials are likely to visit the school.
