Cash worth Rs 3.98 lakh burnt during theft attempt at ATM in Pimpri Chinchwad

Police said that cash worth Rs 3.98 was burned during an attempt to steal money from an ATM of HDFC Bank in Pimpri Chinchwad early Sunday.

According to the police, the robber entered the HDFC Bank ATM on Chikhali Road in Kudalwadi at around 3 am on Sunday. The accused sprayed black paint on the CCTV cameras and attempted to cut off the ATM with a gas cutter. Police said the ATM caught fire and the cash inside the ATM was burnt in the fire. Parts of the automated teller machine, security cameras and some furniture were also damaged.

A man named Amol Shinde filed a First Information Report (FIR) in this case at Chikhali Police Station.

After receiving information about the incident, a team from the Pimpri Chinchwad Police visited the place to investigate the matter. The police have taken into custody the unidentified person under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and those of the Prevention of Defamation of Public Property Act.

Officials said an investigation had been opened to identify and arrest the accused.
