BSP to support NDA candidate in vice-presidential polls, says Mayawati

BSP chairwoman Mayawati announced on Wednesday that her party will support NDA candidate Jagdeep Dankhar in the vice presidential election scheduled for August 6. The BSP party had earlier supported the NDA candidate Droupadi Murmu in last month’s presidential election and won it.

Miawati announced on Twitter. “It is known that due to the lack of consensus between the government and the opposition in the elections for the position of head of state, the highest office in the country, the elections were finally held. Now with the development of the same situation, the elections for the position of vice president will also be held on August 6,” Mayawati tweeted in Hindi.

In another tweet, she added, “In light of the greater public interest and movement of the party, BSP has decided to lend its support to Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar in the election for Vice President and I also officially announce today.”

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) announced the nomination of Jagdeep Dankhar for the post of Vice President while the opposition parties announced Margaret Alpha as their candidate.

The BSP has 10 members in the Lok Sabha and one in the Rajya Sabha.
