The Bombay High Court on Tuesday rejected the bail application of film maker Avinash Das, who was booked by the Gujarat Police for sharing a photo of Federal Home Minister Amit Shah with Cadre Jharkhand Pooja Singhal, who was recently arrested by the ED in a money laundering case.
The Vacation Board of Judge Bharati Dangri rejected Das’ anticipatory bail application, which was filed by Advocate Adil Khatri, and ordered the director to “approach the appropriate forum for relief”.
Judge Dangri said Ahmedabad, where the FIR was recorded against Das, was not too far from Mumbai.
The judge said that Das should go to the relevant court in Ahmedabad for protection from arrest or any other compensation related to the case.
The Department of Enforcement earlier this month arrested the Mining Secretary of Jharkhand Singhal in a money laundering case involving the alleged diversion of MGNREGA funds, and also confiscated over Rs 18 crore in cash from the house of a chartered accountant, allegedly linked to Senegal.
An official from the Ahmedabad Police Crime Detection Branch said last week that Das (46) posted the photo on his Twitter account on May 8.
The official said the photo showed Shah and Singhal at a public event five years ago, but Das tweeted it to mislead people and discredit the minister.
In the FIR registered by the Ahmedabad Police, Das was also booked under the Prevention of Insults Act of the National Honor Act and the Information Technology Act, for allegedly insulting the national flag by posting a distorted picture on March 17 of a woman wearing three colors on his face. Facebook account.
Das directed the 2017 film “Anarkali of Ar” starring Swara Bhaskar, Sanjay Mishra and Pankaj Tripathi.
