Bill Gates Responds to Redditor’s Tough Question on Jeffrey Epstein Connection

Bill Gates did a Reddit AMA recently and some obscure topics were broached. Gates responded directly to Redditors asking him some uncomfortable questions about his relationships with Jeffrey Epstein. Gates had previously said he regretted his meetings with Epstein, the wealthy financial manager who has been accused of child sex trafficking. “It was a huge mistake to spend time with him, to give him the credibility of being there,” he told CNN last year. At an AMA Thursday, Redditor asked Gates, “How exactly was Epstein Island? What did you do there?” [sic]Gates replied: I’ve never been to any of his islands. Meetings have been held where global health financing has been discussed. When I turn back, I am sorry to meet him.”

Gates’ answer was polarizing, and different Reddit users had different opinions regarding the timing of Gates’ connection to Epstein.

Speaking with CNN’s Anderson Cooper last year, Gates said he only met Epstein in hopes of raising more money to deal with global health issues.

“I’ve had several dinners with him, you know, hoping that what he said about getting billions from global health philanthropy would come through through the connections you might have gotten,” Gates said. “When it seemed like this wasn’t a real thing, that relationship ended.”

Recently, Gates focused on Elon Musk’s move to buy Twitter. Gates was responding to speculation about his feud with Musk, saying the Tesla CEO could make Twitter a “worse” platform.

Speaking at the Wall Street Journal’s CEO Board summit, Gates said he was unsure about Musk’s intention to buy the micro-blogging platform. During his conversation, Gates also talked about shorting Tesla, something Elon Musk has faced, among other things. “It can actually make it worse,” Gates said. He also said the Twitter purchase is an uncertain move from Musk. Gates said it wasn’t clear what Musk would do with Twitter, before backing off a bit, saying he wouldn’t assume what would happen. “If Musk makes Twitter worse, I’ll talk about it, but I won’t assume what will happen,” Gates said.
