Bengaluru: Speeding car kills man, injures three others

A 28-year-old man has died and three others were injured after a speeding car accidentally plowed onto the pavement on Bengaluru’s Outer Ring Road on Friday morning.

The deceased was identified as Rudrapa aka Suresh Kumar from Belur village in Shivamuga district. He worked with a catering service and lived in rented accommodation with colleagues.

The accident occurred around 7.20 am when Rudrapa and his colleagues Sachin and Shivaraju were walking towards the bus station near Katarigopi junction near Banachankari. A speeding car, losing control of the wheels, crashed onto the curb and dropped the trio and another young man known as Shylendra, a final year undergraduate student at a private college. Shailendra is a resident of Husakerhalli.

The impact was so severe that one of them was thrown into the air while one got stuck between two vehicles. Police arrested the driver of the car, Mukesh Ji, 28, an assistant film director and a resident of Shnahali on Majadi Road. Mukesh Srinivas’ friend Thimaya was in the car during the accident.

Sachin and Shivaraju, who are from Mandya and Shivamuga, were heading to Majestic to catch a bus to Hubali where they had ordered food for Saturday.

Police said Mukesh and Srinivas got off the car and took the four to a nearby private hospital, where Rudrapa succumbed to his injuries. In his testimony to the police, Mukesh said that he is currently working on Kannada movie on Sarjapur Road and has been on the set for two consecutive nights. Police suspect a lack of sleep may have led to the accident.
