Beauty tips: Importance of double cleansing, how to wash your face twice, combos | Fashion Trends

Double cleansing means cleaning your face twice in a row, the first is an oil-based cleanser and the second is a water-based cleanser. Simply put, double cleansing refers to washing your face twice and this process is aimed at removing the dirt sitting on your skin during the first wash and providing deep cleansing on the second.

The importance of double distillation

In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Dr Sushma Yadav, a dermatologist, cosmetologist, hair transplant surgeon and founder of Bengaluru Skin Sciences Center said, “The benefit of double cleansing is that the first cleanser breaks down any makeup, removes dirt and excess oils. Clean your skin day in and day out. The second cleanser addresses your specific skin type or concern and should contain ingredients to hydrate, smooth, or exfoliate and treat acne.

Dr Manasi Shirolikar, consultant dermatologist and founder of online consulting brand Drmanasiskin.com, shared, “We all sometimes get a little lazy and wonder whether or not twice-cleansing is really important – the truth is, yes. It is. Not only does double cleansing remove dirt, dirt, etc. A thorough cleanser also gives a little shine to the face (it removes all the muck from the deeper layer). With this deep cleansing of the face, the skin care products that you have invested in genuinely penetrate the skin, thus giving you the full benefits of the ingredients in each of them, and it will target your skin care efficiently and effectively. While it’s not mandatory, Double Cleansing is definitely a game changer in your skin routine, so if you haven’t tried it yet, now is the time to do it and see the difference!

How do you wash your face twice?

Dr. Manasi Shirolikar highlighted, “Double cleansing helps to remove any make-up or thick skin care effectively, while ensuring that excess sebum leaves your face. The first cleanser aka oil-based cleanser usually takes care of this. Choose it (it turns into a texture-like oil).

“Getting a second cleanser, your water-based cleanser – it’s essential to thoroughly wash your face oil, so your face is clean and ready for your nighttime routine.”

Double cleansing combos

Dr Sushma Yadav warns, “One of the biggest mistakes people make when doing double cleansing is that they use very harsh chemicals and remove the natural barrier to the skin. The most crucial thing to consider here is that double cleansing works well for people with oily and combination skin. It is not recommended for sensitive skin.

Since there is something for everyone, they have suggested some double cleansing combos for each skin type:

1. For dry skin – First, you can cleanse your skin with micellar water and then use a cream cleanser to add hydration.

2. For oily skin – You should go for an oil-based formula because sebum is soluble in oil so using an oil-based cleanser is beneficial. Post it, one can go to any mild cleaner.

3. For combination skin – Your best bet is nutrient-rich, oil-based cleansers with ceramides, as these will help keep your skin hydrated and moisturized. The same is true if you have normal skin. After that, a cream based cleanser can be used.

4. For acne-prone skin – Obtain a gentle cleansing oil while removing your makeup. To help your skin break down and calm irritation, look for antioxidants and anti-inflammatory ingredients such as azelaic acid, glycolic acid.

Double cleansing is relaxing and therapeutic for some of us but should always consult a dermatologist to avoid any disasters.
