Singaporean badminton world champion Luo Kin Yew was forced to take the silver medal after he was knocked down by rising Thai star Konlavut Fittedsern in the men’s final at the Caribbean Games on Sunday.

The 21-year-old Konlavut won the gold with a 21-13, 21-13 victory in Hanoi, Vietnam, on the final day of competition in the Regional Games.
World number 10 Luo took the lead in the first game but his opponent, the 18th-ranked Thai and three-time world junior champion, fought back to equalize before withdrawing in decisive fashion.
Konlavut was always in control in the second match, and his surprise victory was a huge blow to Singapore as the city’s chance to win the men’s singles gold for the first time in nearly 40 years at the Games.
The women’s singles final was an entirely Thai affair, as she defeated Pornpawee Chochuwong Phittayaporn Chaiwan 21-14, 21-16.
Chen Tang Jie and Peak Yen Wei won the mixed doubles gold in the all-male final, while the women’s doubles title went to Abriani Rahayu and City Fadia Silva Ramadanti of Indonesia.
Leo Rulli Carnando and Daniel Marthen, also from Indonesia, won the men’s doubles gold.
