Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Giriraj Singh on Thursday delivered letters of sanction to 12 beneficiaries as part of the provision of homes for five people. Speaking on the occasion, Sarma said the process of awarding five residential homes to the beneficiaries under the leadership of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) started from Jorhat and will be replicated across the state.
He said that since 2014, the center had sanctioned 19 lakh homes in Assam with financial outlays of Rs 27,000 crore. “Out of this, seven Lak Houses under various stages of construction and construction for another five lakhs started today includes a financial outlay of Rs 7,739.50 crore. As a down payment, steps have been taken for disbursement of Rs 1,657.50 crore.”
The prime minister said that of the 12,000 beneficiaries in Jorhat district, 4,000 belong to the tea gardens communities.
