It’s hard for anyone online to predict what tickles the funny bone of social media users on Twitter. However, trust the desi members to take anything at random to inspire the next big meme trend on the platform. The latest one is “Aryabhata memes”, thanks to a post by Pepsi India.
While there is clearly no clear connection between the Indian mathematician and astronomer and the drink, the tongue-in-cheek tweet from the brand sparked a slew of reactions online.
In their usual way of trying to push one of their products, the company combined humor and humor with some contact forums. Speaking of their “zero-calorie” diet drink, the brand tweeted, “Sources say Arriabatta invented zero just to count the number of calories in Pepsi Black.”

Aryabhata, the first major mathematician and astronomer from the classical era of Indian mathematics and astronomy, is often credited with inventing the number zero. This is a claim that has been contested by many historians from different cultures, who have argued that it can be traced back to many ancient civilizations.
However, on Tuesday evening, people on Twitter were more interested in why Aryapatta had discovered it just like the soft drink company. Tweeple drew their inspiration from their own ideas. One wrote with humor: “Aryabhata invented zero just to show the importance I have in my family.” Another lamented, “Aryabhatta ko ek aya idea (Aryabhatta got one idea) and now I have to work daily to add more 0 digits in my bank account…”
