Arjun Kapoor says Aditya Chopra didn’t think he had the looks to be a lead hero

Arjun Kapoor is all set to celebrate his 37th birthday on Sunday. The actor has completed 10 years in the film industry and has come a long way from his debut film Ishaqzadeh. Arjun recently opened up about his debut film produced by Yash Raj Films and was rejected several times until he convinced producer Aditya Chopra to trust him. In Ishaqzadeh, Arjun played the role of an assassin named Parma, who plays a hot-tempered Muslim girl, starring Pariniti Chopra. The film is directed by Habib Fasal.

Talking about his debut with Ishaqzadeh, Arjun said, “It was obvious that I didn’t want to make my debut with my father (Bonnie Kapoor) because it was the easy way out. And somewhere, I think it would be unfair. To test me for the best. It is a safety net. So I went to audition. Aditya Chopra sir, look at my photos, ‘Yeh Tao actor Nahim Ban Sakta (he can’t be an actor), he can’t be a main hero.’

Arjun lost weight and worked for himself for six months. Six months later, she did a new photo shoot, which prompted Aditya Chopra to say “yes” to the audition.

Arjun also opened up about how he took the nuances of a small town man in his debut film Ishaqzadeh. “I haven’t gone to UP. I grew up in Juhu. I had never seen the world. I read the script and had the assumption that the people of the big cities have about the small towns. I did not know India. I am a Bollywood-consuming kid from Juhu-Lokhandwala. At the age of 23, when I met Aditya Sir, I believed that I knew who the audience was in India. That film made me realize who my real audience was.

Arjun was supposed to make his debut with the film Virus Diwan but the film was never made. Ishaqzade impressed critics and two years later, he starred alongside Priyanka Chopra in Arjun Gunde. Since then, he has delivered some successful films like 2 States and Ki & Ka. He was last seen in the movie Bhoot Police in 2021 and will now appear in Ek Villain Returns. They have Kutte and The Lady Killer in the pipeline.
