Apple launched two new Pride Edition watches for the Apple Watch during Pride Month in June, to show its support for the global LGBTQ+ community and the equality movement. This year’s Pride Edition sports ring features a color gradient with the word “Pride” woven into the strap. The company is also launching a new pride campaign called “Shot on iPhone” on Instagram that captures the essence of artists and personalities within the global LGBTQ+ community.
The Cupertino-based tech giant also supports several LGBTQ+ advocacy organizations including Encircle, an organization that provides life assurance programs for community members and their families, and Project Trevor, a suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBTQ+ youth.
Other organizations supported by Apple include the Equality Federation Institute, Equality North Carolina, Equality Texas, Gender Spectrum, GLSEN, Human Rights Campaign, ILGA World, The National Center for Transgender Equality, PFLAG, and SMYAL.
Apple Pride watch band
For this year’s Pride Edition watch band, Apple used new technology to remove the many double-layered woven nylon webbing loops on the strap to reveal the word “pride” in a cursive writing style inspired by the company’s famous “hello” salute. It was first introduced to the Mac in 1984.
The team behind the clock used a color gradient that incorporates the colors of the original rainbow with those drawn from various pride flags, including flags representing transgender, gender non-conforming individuals, and black and Latino communities. The colors also represent those who are living with HIV/AIDS or have died.
Apple Pride Edition watch face
As part of Pride Month, Apple is also releasing a new watch face that combines colors in a way that reflects the loops woven into the Sport Loop. The watch face is made of lifelike “strands”. When the Apple Watch is rotated, the screen is tapped or the user’s wrist is raised, the colored strings move.
The company is also including a new App Clip functionality within the band’s packaging that will make it easy and convenient for customers to instantly access their new matching watch face.
Apple Pride Edition Nike Sport Loop
Apple also revealed a new Nike Sport Pride Edition ring that also comes with a matching rainbow Nike Bounce face that complements the new strap.
Sport Loop aims to honor individuals who extend the sport to future generations while inspiring others to be their true selves. It’s part of Nike’s Be True group, the company’s commitment to the LGBTQ+ community, with a focus on recognition, advocacy, inspiration and education.
