The main opposition AIADMK on Wednesday demanded that the DMK take legal action against a YouTube channel responsible for uploading the video, by condemning a video offensive to a Hindu deity.
AIADMK said that the YouTube channel that posted the content should be banned immediately and steps should be taken to prevent such incidents from recurring as inaction would affect societal harmony and deteriorate the state of law and order.
Referring to the protests of Lord Shiva’s followers as they embarked on a demonstration at the city temple of Chidambaram, AIADMK leader O Panneerselvam said his party had strongly condemned the video post which insulted the cosmic dance of Lord Nataraja, a form of Shiva.
He said in a statement that the criticism was uncivilized, insulting and hurt the feelings of Hindus.
The Deputy Opposition Leader of the Tamil Nadu Assembly said AIADMK would oppose insulting any religion, adding that Prime Minister MK Stalin is common to those who believe in God and atheists as well.
Bannerselvam, who is also a former chief minister, said that stern action was taken during the AIADMK regime in 2020 against ‘Karuppar Kootam’ who slandered Kanda Sashti Kavacham, a prayer and song of praise to Lord Muruga. AIADMK’s top leader has called on the DMK government to crack down on the YouTube channel and the people responsible for uploading it.
