ADGP-led STF to wage war on drugs in Himachal

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Sunday announced that a Special Task Force (STF) will be formed to fight against drugs in the hilly country.

CM, CID additional police director general, who has launched ‘Nasha Nahim, Jindagi Chunne’, joint initiative of the State Tax and Excise Department and Nasha Nivaran Board in Shimla as part of the International Day Against Drugs and Illegal Trafficking, said. The CM also announced that 73 vacancies will be created and filled for police personnel in the excise department for effective implementation of regulatory legislation.

He began the process of creating an excise police force.

“We must make the campaign against drug consumption a mass movement. Only society can fight a demon,” he said. He said reconciliation was essential.

“Steps are being taken to devise a joint strategy to check the pathway,” he said, adding that the government has launched a special de-addiction helpline under the CM Helpline (1100).

“It provides advice and guidance to patients. Parents should also look at behavioral changes in their wards,” he said.

The CM, who admitted that drugs have reached remote parts of the state, said the sale of drugs in Himachal Pradesh was a non-bailable offense. We have taken drastic measures to check the growth of sexy crops.

The Commissioner for Tax and Excise, Yunus Khan, said the department has destroyed more than 40 jute plantations of jute in the last few days.

On this occasion CM preached the oath against the consumption of drugs. Drug detection kits and prizes were distributed to the winners of various competitions such as painting, marathon and slogan competitions.
