Sangli police said that 9 bodies were found in two parts of the house at Mahisal village, 200 km from Pune.
Nine members of a single family were found dead at their home in Sangli district in western Maharashtra on Monday, police said.
“We suspect that the deceased had consumed a toxic substance. But Deputy Superintendent of Police Ashik Wirker said it was too early to draw any conclusions.
The incident took place in the village of Mahisal in Meeraj tehsil of the district.
The corpses were found in two parts of the village house, 200km from Pune, said Dixit Gedam, a senior police officer.
“Nine corpses were found in one house. Three corpses were found in the same area, while six were found elsewhere in the house, he said.
Gedham did not elaborate on the cause of death, stressing that police were on the spot and are still investigating.
