13 Teams Book Their Spots as India Gears Up for 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup

India is gearing up to host its first-ever FIFA Women’s Championship when 16 teams make their way to the country for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup India 2022 in October.

After completing the UEFA Women’s Under-17 Championship earlier this month, three European nations joined hosts India, China, Japan, New Zealand, USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Chile and Colombia in the FIFA squad. Both teams will know their opponents when the Official Draw for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup India 2022 takes place in Zurich on 24 June 2022.

The winners of the UEFA Women’s Under-17 Championship – runner-up Germany – had already confirmed her trip to India after reaching the final. Meanwhile, France booked their place in the tournament by defeating the Netherlands in the match for third place.

While the Brazilian and Colombian teams showed their enthusiasm for traveling to India via social media, French coach Cecile Locatelli said speaking from their team’s perspective, “Being in the World Cup is great for the players. Just look at the World Cup we won in 2012 – so many players. They are now representing us at the full international level. It’s a great experience, and for the staff and coaches, it’s a very good competition to learn how to help young players progress.”

Canadian player Claire Logan also shared her excitement about playing the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup India 2022, “We are all very happy to qualify. We will continue to work hard on and off the field to get the amazing opportunity we play in the FIFA World Cup.”

The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup India 2022, which will be held in Bhubaneswar, Goa and Navi Mumbai, will be played from 11-30 October 2022.
