Lt Governor VK Saxena has suspended 11 officials, including Delhi’s then Excise Commissioner Arava Gopi Krishna and Deputy Excise Commissioner Anand Kumar Tiwari, for “serious lapses” in the implementation of the Excise Policy 2021-22, sources said on Saturday.
Sources in LG’s office said that three temporary DANICS officers and six officers of Excise Department of Delhi government have been suspended.
He said the LG took the decision in view of “serious lapses on the part of the authorities concerned” in the implementation of excise policy, including irregularities in tender finalization and extension of post-tender benefits to selected vendors.
Saxena took this action based on the investigation report submitted by the Directorate of Vigilance (DoV).
The LG has already recommended a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into violations of rules and procedural lapses in the implementation of the Excise Policy 2021-22.
Under the policy implemented on November 17, 2021, retail licenses for 849 liquor vends across the city to private establishments divided into 32 zones.
This policy has now been withdrawn by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government led by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
